- The Bards Tale Character Editor By Alan Bell. 29/1/89
- Written for ST/AMIGA FORMAT
-
- Note: See Update Notes for the latest information
-
- This BASIC program allows the user to edit or create from scratch a standard
- Bards Tale character file, which can be loaded into 'The Bards Tale' and
- 'The Bards Tale II' by Electronic Arts.
-
- On loading, you will be presented with a default status form.
- At the top of the screen is a customary menu bar containing 6 Menus.
- These are as follows;
-
- 1:- Project Menu
-
- 2:- Race Menu
-
- 3:- Class Menu
-
- 4:- Attributes Menu
-
- 5:- Statistics Menu
-
- 6:- Spell Levels Menu
-
- The Project Menu
-
- This menu follows the usual format, allowing the loading and saving of
- character files. The 'Save' option only operates after a previous 'Open'
- or 'Save as' operation. It is also disabled after 'New', which resets the
- values to the default character setting.
-
- Character Files in 'The Bards Tale' are saved with a prefix of 'TPW.'
- and a suffix of '.C'.
-
- eg. The character MARKUS is saved as 'TPW.MARKUS.C'
-
- Fortunately, this program recognises this fact and adds these pieces on.
- All you need to do is supply the name of the character and, on single
- drive machines, swap disks whenever prompted.
-
- Race Menu
-
- Using this menu, you can select the race of your character simply by
- highlighting it with the pointer. A mark will be placed by the side to
- indicate the current selection.
-
- Class Menu
-
- This menu operates in exactly the same way as the race menu just described.
-
- Attributes Menu
-
- All the parameters in this menu require a numerical input. Just choose
- the option you wish to change and type in the new value at the prompt,
- followed by <RETURN>. Minimum and maximum values are displayed in brackets.
-
- Statistics Menu
-
- This menu operates in exactly the same way as the Attributes menu just
- described.
- Note: If your character is non-magical, you will not be able to
- select options relating to spells.
-
- Spell Level Menu
-
- Providing your character has a magical class, you can use this
- menu to adjust the spell levels of each of the four mage levels.
- This menu operates in the same way as the attributes menu.
-
- Notes for future development
-
- At the moment I am planning on adding an Equipment menu and a system
- for loading and editing Bards Tale II characters. If you are interested
- in an update, send an S.A.E. plus disk to;

- Alan Bell,
- 21 Cromer Street,
